Basic Advertising and Marketing concepts

Before you start the advertisement process, you will need to understand a few basic concepts:

Marketing: according to the American Marketing Association (A.M.A.) “Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large”

Advertising: according to Philip Kotler advertising is “any paid form of non-personal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, and services through mass media such as newspapers, magazines, television or radio by an identified sponsor”

Target market: the American Marketing Association (A.M.A), defines the target market as "the particular segment of a population in which the retailer focuses on its marketing expertise to satisfy that submercado, with the purpose of achieving a particular utility"

Marketing research: according to the AMA, Marketing Research is “the function that links the consumer, customer, and public to the marketer through information-information used to identify and define marketing opportunities and problems; generate, refine, and evaluate marketing actions; monitor marketing performance; and improve understanding of marketing as a process.
Marketing research specifies the information required to address these issues, designs the method for collecting information, manages and implements the data collection process, analyzes the results, and communicates the findings and their implications"

These definitions will help you understand every part of the process in depth so you can create your own advertising campaign. It is important to comprehend another essential concept, the advertising budget. You will need to define what budget are you willing to spend.

  1. I'm loving the research, but we need to see more of your commentary, thoughts, and examples. How would you personally describe these definitions, how can I connect them to what's happening around me, and why do I need to know them.

Just something to keep in mind. Keep up the good work!
